The most compelling evidence of Philippine’s political system’s troubling decline is the increasing presence of celebrities—actors, actresses, and comedians—in our legislative and executive branches, including local governments. We are putting the creation and implementation of laws in the hands of individuals who lack formal training in law or public administration.
This situation underscores a crucial point: the responsibility lies with the voters who support these celebrities. When unqualified individuals seek government positions, it ultimately harms the Filipino people. Many candidates win simply due to their fame, without possessing the essential skills and knowledge needed for effective governance. It is time to prioritize competence over celebrity in our elections for the sake of our democracy and future.
