Shogun Short Review

“I enjoyed the ending of Shōgun, even though the battle was not shown. It was beautifully shot and had a poetic feel to it. The story ended satisfactorily without the need for the battle scene. There were many moments that I loved, such as Ishido finding Yabushige half-mad in the garden, Blackthorne learning that Fuji had decided to become a nun and telling her in Japanese that she’ll be the best nun, Buntaro helping the Anjin drag Erasmus out of the sea, and Muraji revealing his true samurai identity to Blackthorne. The score, costumes, and cinematography were all beautiful. I am sad that it’s over, but including the key battle culminating in Toranaga’s ultimate victory would have made my day.”
